Une partie essentielle du mandat du Comité consiste à examiner les rapports soumis par les États sur la situation des droits de l’enfant dans leur pays.

Cette procédure de rapportage fournit le cadre pour un dialogue entre le Comité et les États parties, permettant au Comité de suivre l’application de la Charte et de s’entendre sur des solutions pour des problèmes, en collaboration avec l’Etat concerné.

Les États sont censés soumettre un rapport initial endéans les deux ans suivant la ratification de la Charte des enfants, et tous les trois ans par la suite.

Le processus de rapportage :

1. l’Etat partie fournit son rapport au Comité
2. Un rapporteur est nominé parmi les membres du Comité
3. Le rapport de la société civile est fourni au Comité
4. Un groupe de travail, en pré-session, est tenu durant lequel le Comité établit les thèmes à discuter avec l’Etat partie
5. Une session plénière (publique) est tenue durant laquelle le Comité discute le rapport avec l’Etat partie
6. Le Comité produit des observations finales et recommandations qui devraient être mises en œuvre par l’État partie.
